This will be the same review as most on here, I have used Philishave for the last 20 years and this ones a dud. If you want a shaver that you HAVE to clean out every time you use it, if you want hair all over your shirt and you don't mind many random hairs sticking out of your chin and neck after shaving maybe this product is for you. Shame on you Philishave.
Weakest shaver yet, Dave - 3rd July 2010
Even on full charge you are left with the impression that should you apply any pressure then this thing will stop! Couldn't shave close to my sideburns so had to use the trimmer for the last inch or so. Had to go over my skin so many times to remove all bristkes that it left my face feeling sore which is not a problem I have had before and have been using an electric shaver for over 30 years. I bought this ...

Great for the company terrible for the customer, bill - 10th June 2010
Having had phillips shavers over 40 years when looking for a new one I treated myself to the most expensive one ever made. It looks and feels great in the hand pity it doesn't shave well. The trimmer is extremely clumsy and uncomfortable, it needs constant cleaning and now the stylish cleaning bath has stopped charging the shaver. Overall a great marketing package for Philips a very raw deal for customers.

Waste of money, CGS - 7th April 2010
Have used Philips shavers for years, this is such a disappointment!!
Messy to use, puts bristles everywhere and not that close of a shave anyway.
But the worst is, you can't take the blades out to get the fluff out. After a year, its full of hair and fluff whirring round that just drags the motor down and gives a terrible shave. Unhygenic waste of money.
Oh and a new head set.....£40 plus, no thanks.

I have been using Philips shavers for over 20 years and bought one of the arcitec range about a year ago and have to say that for the price paid this is the first philips product that I have not been satisfied with.
If you shave regularly every day it is fine but if like me you sometimes have a couple of days growth, this shaver is not for you. It sometimes takes me 10 minutes to get a compl...
Click to Read More >ete shave and that is after using the trimmer to remove hairs on the neck and going over the rest of the face about 3 times in different directions. I also end up with a very red neck and may as well have had a wet shave in the first place.
Positive points are the trimmer - trims sideburns and tash with precision and also the cleaning system saves time.
However I have now gone back to using my previous model, the Philishave 8894 which all in all gives a more comfortable, closer shave. It is also quieter and only needs cleaning once a week.
Has anyone else experienced the same problems with the arcitec. I notice if you open up the cutters the bottom one is always full and the top two almost empty. Seems to me as though one cutting head is doing all the work, or is it just me not using it properly?

I strongly advise you not to buy this shaver as I found the expectations and promises made by Philips for this product to be completely wrong. After years of problems with wet shaving and consistently searching for the ultimate product combination to give me that perfect wet shave I gave up.

Click to Read More >y problems, so I went for the top of the range and invested in the rq1095 this christmas - what a mistake! This shaver pure and simply failed to cut properly under my neck (I tried this for 14 days just in case it was my skin was adjusting and even bought a clinique preshave solution in the hope that it would help) -everyday I looked a mess and had to go back to the wet shave.
Anyway on advice from this website I went onto buy a Panasonic es8249 - what a completely different kettle of fish! Although not quite up to philips slick design, it over achieves by far on its function, giving a perfect effortless shave really quickly. From my experience I really advice you not to by this product I found it useless!

not happy, norman thompson - 8th January 2010
Received as present, would never have chosen a razor with the head at that angle. The trimmer is too awkward to use and I am using my old Philishave for this. I have used Philips shavers for 40 years!

Poor Performance-Hairs Escaped from Chamber, Mike Kelly - 25th October 2009
Like some of the previous reviews, I was bitterly disappointed with this purchase. Hairs under the chin and neck were missed and the cut bristles escape from the cutting chamber, landing over my clothes. I changed the head, suspecting a bad fit, but this didn't improve things. It looks good, but performs poorly. Back to the drawing board guys. You have some serious design flaws with this razor.
Awful shave, Don Pitman - 29th July 2009
Having been a Philishave user for 40 years, My Cool Skin of 10 years was getting a bit tired. So bought the Arcitec 1095.
The shaving performance was terrible- in fact I had to go back over the face with the old shaver. I did give it 2 months trial but no better.
In desperation I bought the HQ7300 series model which is 200% better than the 1095. It seems to me that the 3 way tilting head really defeats the object of a close shave

Disappointed, Paul - 14th June 2009
I recently bought this model but aren't that impressed with it. After shaving with it there are still hairs left behind, especially on the neck, i'd might aswell have stuck to wet shaving, its not worth £200 in my opinion.
Impressed , Stevieuk - 27th May 2009
Finally it had arrived I must have spent £1000's other the years on rubbish shavers but have found the best, it's a close shave and enjoyable.
TERRIBLE!!!, DragonWolfe - 8th March 2009
If You have plenty of time to waste, and LOVE to clean this razor on a DAILY basis, ENJOY getting debris in your eyes, and ON your clothes, AND still not getting a CLOSE shave, then by ALL means, purchase this HIGH priced, INEFFICENT money burner!
Not worth the money, John H - 24th January 2009
After having a Braun 3 series for some time and being very happy with it, I decided to treat myself to a new shaver and I opted for the Philips RQ 1095, its a very attractive shaver with its carbon fibre and led display etc but unfortuantly it doesnt shave you very well at all and it caused me irritated skin. I have recently purchased a Braun 7 series 790 and it is fantastic - well made, but most importantly it shaves very well!!!!
great service, Queenie - 9th May 2008
It is a gift for my dad, the shaver arrived next day after my order,so quickly and in a safe wrapped package.Thank you!
Not Impressed with this Shaver, Steve B - 4th March 2008
Great service from Olympic. Arrived next day in perfect order. I have used philips shavers for 20 years and was looking forward to using the arcitec. After 3 weeks of use I have sold it on and got a smarttouch xl 9190 - much better for me. My main problems with the 1095 were:-

Click to Read More >n. I can't imagine this shaver lasting 7 years like my previous philips.
2) The hair collection area is tiny and really needs emptying / cleaning daily. My old philips and my new smarttouch has enough of a hair collection area so I can use it for a 2-3 weeks without any 'maintainance'
3) The cutting heads consist of 3 rings (like the smarttouch & speed xl) but with the arcitec the outer two have just slots and the inner one just holes, whereas with the smarttouch there is a mixture of slots and holes in the outer 2 rings. I think this really makes a difference for me as the smarttouch is a much closer shave for my face type. With the arcitec I was neading to shave again by late afternoon - not so with the smarttouch xl.
4) The arcitec is considerably noisier than the smarttouch. Not a major issue but my wife certainly noticed the extra noise from the bathroom in the mornings.
5) Getting picky now but the trimmer on the arcitec is rubbish. It is half the width of the smarttouch and you have to remove the shaver head to use it.
6) Getting really picky now but the arcitec plastic head cover is awkward to get on/off and you can't have it on the shaver when it is in its travel pod ?
Overall I think the new arcitiec design is a gimmick and for me, the older design feels better in the hand, is sturdier and shaves closer. I can however highly recommend the smarttouch xl range and olympic currently have a great deal on the hq 9190.

RQ1095 quality and performance..., G Seymour - 30th January 2008
I disagree with a previous reviewer who stated it is cheap and plasticky- it is a quality build using carbon fibre and as good a solid build quality as the 89xx and 9xxx series. Its performance is also best on the market and an improvement on all previous Philishave models and for me beats other makes with ease. Outstanding performance.

Olympic Shaver Centre and RQ1095, G Seymour - 30th January 2008
I have found Olympic offer the best price(the RQ1095 at £185 elsewhere at £249.99) and outstanding and courteous service, and free next day delivery by courier or special delivery. That is why I always return here, having bought 3 shavers in the last 3 years and the best accessories, such as the luxury zippered leather pouch, having purchased 4 of these now.

well satisfied, steve hurry - 7th November 2007
I have just purchased this shaver, having been a wet shaver. Have tried a couple of foil shavers , but was not very pleased with results . thought i would take the plunge and have a go with the arcitec , was a bit worried that i was spending alot on an electric razor without knowing what the results would be. But the gamble paid off this razor is great.
It shaves really close , no burn or soreness...

Its very light in the hand , also does the job fast , no going over all the time . A great buy even though its on the pricey side.

Simply the best, Joe Jask - 19th September 2007
I have owned several electrical shavers over the years(Philips cool skins,Brauns, etc). Most of the shavers were reasonable but none were 100% in given a close shave. So I went for this one and I must admit it is the closest shave to a wet shave. I think the pivot system on the shaving unit is what has made the differance.

At Last, a perfect shave, Philip Edwards - 21st July 2007
I previously had a philishave HQ8170 model that was good, but I always ended up with my face and neck in contorted angles trying to get that last bit of stubble off bits of the neck. This shaver is so much better, the way the heads curve inwards, means it really hugs the contours of your face and all 3 heads cut as you shave. (instead of having only having 1 or 2 heads out of 3 actually in contact with you ...
Click to Read More >skin at any given time on the last shaver.)
The cleaning unit is an improvement - the shaver is actually dry after a few hours.
The case and cable is a but bulky for travel compared with the last shaver, and you have to lift the 3 heads separately to wash under the tap which is slightly less convenient.
Once you try this you wont want to go back to the old design.

SATISFACTORY ONLY, DAVID JOHN - 18th July 2007
A reasonable shaver, but not worth the price,in my opinion. My Phillips 6600 series, at a fraction of the price works just as well if not better! The cleaning mechanism leaves the shaver wet-after a week of cleaning I opened it up to find debris inside!-most unsatisfactory. I really wish I hadn't bought it.
Significant improvment in design and function, Richard - 9th July 2007
Slimmer and more flexible than previous designs. The head freely moves to follow your face rather than you having continually to twist and angle the razor.
Charge is just 65 minutes but given the excellent charger cleaner unit, this isn't a practical restriction.
Seems to work well wet or dry. A significant improvement over previous designs.

Is a £250 shaver THAT much better?, Gordon Simpson - 2nd July 2007
I have to say that having wet shaved my entire life and only attempting to dry shave now and again, i had entered the dry-shave arena last month with the HQ9190 and agreed with most of the posters who said it was good, quiet but had a poor cleaning system. I needlessly upgraded to this model last week and have to say it IS better but am not sure its THAT much better.
The slim tilting head is...
Click to Read More > great, and it actually gets 99% clean in the new system (althought sadly never as good as the Braun range did). The beard clipper is the only thing i don't like about it. Its crap. I could be there for 3 hours and still look like i've barely achieved anything.
All in all, its a sexy unit, does the job very well. Isn't quite as quiet as its top model predecessor but overall is the best dry shave I've ever had.

These are the highest specification shavers Philips produce and feature Philips most advanced shaver design and latest high-end features.
This RQ0195 is the top of the range, presently the ultimate Philips shaver.
In the past the SmartTouch XL range received very good customer feedback from the Shavers.co.uk shoppers. Given that the Arcitec range is an evolution of the old design and in many respects improved I'm sure this will continue.
Of the new design I feel the speed of the cutting heads and the flexibility of the head assembly have are certainly improved. Combined with the new slim body for extra agility it really feels as though it is constantly in contact with the skin while shaving.
I have been a regular user of Philips shavers, most recently the SmartTouch HQ9190. The shave does feel closer although most notably it seems to glide around the face more effortlessly. I think this is mainly in response to the improved pivoting action of the individual cutting heads.
The cleaning system is similar to the SmartTouch although it does purport to be improved in a number of areas. Certainly finish wise it appears to be going for a more sophisticated look with a sleek black and silver finish. While it still doesn't actively dry the heads after cleaning it does factor in a 2 hour drying time to the cleaning cycle. This should be enough for any excess fluid to drain or evaporate from the heads. The actual cleaning only takes around 5-6 minutes depending on cleaning intensity required (the system will work this out for you).
The cutting head does have a radically new structure which makes the alternative of tap washing a breeze. Each head individually flips open exposing the whole internal surface of the hair chamber. This can be easily rinsed out and left to dry naturally should you be away from home or without the cleaning system.
